Kate Brown was born in 1888 in Worcester, Massachusetts.  That was the same year that the Jekyll Island Club opened the doors to its recently completed grand Clubhouse.  Kate was hired in 1917 by the Valentine Everit Macy family as the personal secretary to Edith Macy and tutor to the Macy Children – Noel and Edytha.  As members of the Jekyll Island Club, the Macys came to Jekyll Island during the peak of the 1917 Club season - the months February and March.  Throughout her employment with the Macy family, Kate penned frank and personal letters home to her family.  These letters give us a look at the daily life and activities of Jekyll Island’s Club members
